A PORTISHEAD businessman has offered to rid the town of unsightly graffiti – following an appeal for help in the Evening Post.

Budd Mott, 41, who owns Portishead based BVP Cleaning Services, stepped in to offer his help after reading in the Post how graffiti could affect the town’s chances at this year’s South West in Bloom competition.

Over the winter unsightly graffiti has been daubed on the electricity substation at Nore Road as well as the telephone exchange box at Wyndham Way.

Properties in the town centre, West Hill and at the Village Quarter development have also been targeted.

Another property to fall victim to the vandals is the former carpet shop at Cabstand in the centre of the town.

Chairman, Sandy Tebbutt, said: “It’s fantastic that a local business has come forward and offered to help and we’re very grateful to Mr Mott.

Every Spring local businessman and owner of Maid2Clean Kidderminster David Savage, notices a significant upsurge in the number of enquiries he receives. As the clocks go back this year, David has decided to get to investigate why the “Spring Clean” is clearly still such a prevalent phenomenon.

After much research, David has compiled a list of the five key reasons we may feel an urge to spruce up our homes in the spring: 1. Embedded cultural and religious practices including: • The Iranian practice of “khooneh tekouni” which literally means “shaking the house” just before Persian New Year which falls on the first day of Spring.

Owner of Maid2Clean Kidderminster, David Savage has watched with interest as local people spring into action throughout March each year. In order to explain this annual anomaly David has carried out his own research on the practise of Spring Cleaning and has concluded that spring cleaning is not only a tradition, but also has a cultural and a biological basis too.
